TITLE: UX Subject Matter Expert

ANTICIPATION DURATON: 6 months

LOCATION: Remote

Our client is looking to work with a Canva subject matter expert on an upcoming project. This document outlines the roles and responsibilities for SME management on the UX/UI Toolkit build and to define the expectations for SMEs who are assigned to this project.

Availability:

• The SME will work up to 40 hours per week through February 2026.
• They will be available to meet virtually or work asynchronously Monday - Friday during normal business hours. The client will work in good faith to accommodate scheduling conflicts with the SME.

Role Overview:

The SME(s) will work with the client to review content for a Canva Design Skills Certificate. Their job will be to provide content interviews and edit assets including video scripts, hands-on projects, labs, assessments, and readings during course development. The SME will have in-depth knowledge and expertise in UX design, experience in online learning content development, and strong communication and collaboration skills. This SME will not appear on camera for instructional videos.

Process Overview and Turnaround Expectations

Content Production: The client will require detailed information and source content from the SME. SMEs will supply this content primarily through interviews or asynchronously in writing. As course assets are developed, SMEs will review and edit them to ensure accuracy and provide insights to address learning design questions. Upon completion of the course and its integration into the platform, SMEs may be asked to review the final product, ensuring a seamless and impactful learning experience.

1. The client will work with the SME in an agile fashion. Reviews will be quickly turned around - sometimes within one working day.
2. The SME will work closely and collaboratively with the client as a critical extension of the internal team.
3. Depending on the urgency and volume, Subject Matter Experts will share requested source content or be available for meetings with the client within one business day of the request.

Guidelines that the Subject Matter Expert will follow for the deliverables:

Work with the client to develop deliverables as specified by the client production teams, including:

• Collaborate to create requested deliverables following deliverable specifications and templates.
• Iterate on deliverables according to feedback
• Review content as requested
• Adhere to deadlines as specified by the production team
• As requested, support review of deliverables on the platform before launch

The ideal candidate for this Subject Matter Expert role will have:

• Has 3-5 years experience as a professional UX Designer and helped work on projects across product lifecycle (from product research to product launch)

The hourly pay rate range for this position is $60.00 to $75.00/hr (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
