Job Description

Innovative Systems, Inc. is looking for an entry-level User Experience Designer to work at our world headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will be responsible for all phases of the design process - from initial research to high-fidelity prototypes for existing product redesigns and new product offerings.

Our ideal candidate will have a fundamental understanding of the user design process and be well-versed in design research methodologies and technologies. They will be a user advocate; someone who is able to see the product from the experience of the user and then alter their design accordingly. Additionally, they will be outgoing, personable, and able to speak intelligently with users and stakeholders alike. They will be comfortable with receiving feedback and constructive criticism and passionate about creating elegant, user-centered solutions.

Location: Based at our World Headquarters located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Currently the team is working a flexible hybrid schedule, working in the office 2 days a week and remote 2 days a week.

What you will be doing…
As a UX designer at Innovative, you will play an essential role in our product design. You will conceive and conduct user research, interviews and surveys, and translate them into sitemaps, wireframes and prototypes. You will design the overall functionality of the product and iterate upon it to ensure a positive user experience. In addition, you will be part of promoting a user-centered culture throughout Innovative, helping to create ways to put the users of our products first. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Translating concepts into wireframes, prototypes & other deliverables that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Facilitating client’s product visions by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping, and mocking up user experiences for digital products.
  • Identifying design problems and devising elegant solutions.
  • Making strategic design and user-experience decisions related to both existing and new features.
  • Rapidly testing and iterating designs with both existing and potential users.
  • Collaborating with team members and stakeholders all over the globe.
  • Taking smart risks and championing new ideas.
Qualifications you must have…
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in HCI, Information Systems, Computer Science, Communication Design, or related STEM or Design fields.
  • Portfolio of work that demonstrates use of the complete design process.
  • Proven ability to work with clients to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet client needs and vision.
  • A solid grasp of user-centered design and testing methodologies, subsystems, and usability and accessibility concerns.
  • Ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently.
  • Ability to clearly and successfully communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and clients.
  • Experience effectively working independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10-15% of the time to client sites throughout the UK, the United States, and other locations.
It’s a plus if you have…
  • Expertise in UX software such as Figma, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer.js, Quartz Composer.
  • Experience with front-end development technologies, such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript frameworks such as JQuery, Angular, and React.
  • Familiarity with .NET framework.
  • Experience designing for both desktop and mobile-based platforms.
