Project Executive - Commercial Electrical Construction - Phoenix, AZ
The Project Executive is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall strategic direction, financial performance, and client satisfaction of a portfolio of significant commercial electrical construction projects. This individual will provide executive oversight to multiple project teams, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality, budget, and schedule. The Project Executive acts as the primary point of contact for key clients, cultivates new business opportunities, and mentors project management staff to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic project plans that align with company objectives and client requirements.
- Provide high-level oversight and guidance to multiple Project Managers and their teams, ensuring successful project delivery from pre-construction through closeout.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across assigned projects, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to ensure financial and operational success.
- Drive innovation and best practices in project management, leveraging industry trends and technology.
- Hold ultimate accountability for the profit and loss (P&L) of assigned projects, implementing robust cost controls and financial forecasting.
- Review and approve project budgets, estimates, purchase requisitions, invoices, and change order requests.
- Oversee total construction and design efforts, including coordination of all trades and disciplines.
- Guarantee rigorous adherence to all company, client, and project policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Lead the implementation and interpretation of comprehensive safety programs, ensuring strict OSHA compliance and fostering a proactive safety culture.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Project Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, and other project staff.
- Authorize all project staff transactions, including hiring decisions, staffing levels, and compensation.
- Foster a collaborative and high-accountability environment, promoting professional growth and continuous learning within the project teams.
- Provide direction and support to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions.
- Act as the primary liaison and ultimate point of escalation for key clients, general contractors, subcontractors, union officials, and other external stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with all project participants to ensure seamless communication and successful project outcomes.
- Represent the company with the highest level of professionalism and integrity in all interactions.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, developing contingency plans to address potential challenges.
- Lead the resolution of complex project issues, ensuring timely and effective solutions that minimize impact on project performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial electrical construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role such as Project Executive or Senior Project Manager.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale, complex commercial electrical projects (e.g., data centers, high-rise, healthcare, industrial facilities) with values typically exceeding $20M.
- Deep expertise in electrical systems, construction methods, and the National Electric Code (NEC).
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience in P&L management, budgeting, estimating, and cost control.
- Exceptional leadership, team-building, and mentoring skills.
- Superior communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities, with a proven capacity to build strong client relationships.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, BIM 360).
- Thorough understanding of labor agreements and union relations within the construction industry.
- OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety certifications preferred.
- Ability to travel frequently to project sites, including potential temporary relocation for the duration of certain projects.
