Job Description

Job summary:

Our client is seeking a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the rehabilitation team. The OT will assess, plan, and implement therapeutic interventions. These interventions help patients regain function, achieve independence in daily living activities, and return to meaningful life roles after illness, injury, or surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients' physical, cognitive, and psychosocial functioning to identify strengths, weaknesses, and functional limitations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, patient goals, and physician prescriptions.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions using various techniques, including exercises, adaptive equipment training, and patient education.
  • Educate patients and their families on assistive devices, adaptive techniques, and home exercise programs to promote independence and safe transitions.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, reassessing as needed, and adjusting treatment plans accordingly.
  • Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, and other professionals, to coordinate care and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Participate in team meetings, peer reviews, and case conferences to ensure effective communication and a coordinated approach to care.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation reflecting services provided and complying with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain competency in administering treatment to diverse patient populations, adjusting techniques and interventions to meet age-specific and condition-specific needs.
  • Supervise and provide clinical guidance to Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and rehab technicians in skilled tasks and treatment sessions.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations regarding occupational therapy practice and maintain a valid state license.
  • Understand various relevant payment models related to billing and treatment guidelines.
  • Be compliant with infection control procedures and environmental safety protocols within the facility.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Master’s degree in occupational therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program, or a doctoral degree.

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex therapy techniques clearly to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop personalized treatment plans and adapt approaches based on individual patient needs.
  • Adaptability and creativity to adjust strategies and engage patients effectively in therapy.
  • Empathy, compassion, and the ability to build trust and motivate patients, especially those facing frustration or slow progress.
  • Proficiency in therapeutic techniques, including manual therapy and the use of adaptive equipment and technology.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation principles, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in clinical documentation.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills for managing multiple cases and workloads.
  • Emotional resilience and patience in managing challenging cases and supporting patients through their recovery journeys.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to achieve common goals.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Valid certification from the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Valid Occupational Therapist state license (where applicable).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
