Job Description

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, aligning, and maintaining industrial machinery and mechanical systems across power plants, refineries, manufacturing facilities, and large-scale construction sites. This position combines traditional millwright skills with mechanical maintenance responsibilities to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plant standards.

Technicians at the Apprentice level work under supervision to develop skills in precision alignment, mechanical assembly, and troubleshooting. Journeyman-level technicians are expected to perform independently, applying advanced mechanical and millwright expertise to handle equipment installations, repairs, and overhauls with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, assemble, and align industrial machinery such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, turbines, motors, gearboxes, and valves.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and production machinery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues using root cause analysis and standard diagnostic tools.
• Utilize precision instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment tools, and torque wrenches.
• Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and manufacturer manuals.
• Perform shaft alignment, coupling alignment, and balancing of rotating equipment.
• Fabricate, cut, and weld supports, brackets, and guards as needed.
• Dismantle and rebuild machinery, bearings, seals, and other components.
• Follow all plant and OSHA safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and confined-space entry protocols.
• Document maintenance work, inspections, and equipment histories accurately.
• Support plant operations during shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages.

Qualifications:

Apprentice Level:

• 2–4 years of experience in industrial or mechanical maintenance
• Basic knowledge of mechanical hand tools, torque procedures, and industrial safety practices.
• Ability to assist in equipment installation, alignment, and teardown.
• Eagerness to learn under supervision of a journeyman or foreman.
• Willingness to travel and work extended hours as needed for projects or outages.

Journeyman Level:

• 4–10+ years of experience as a millwright, mechanical technician, or industrial maintenance mechanic.
• Proficient in precision alignment, pump rebuilds, rotating equipment maintenance, and reading complex schematics.
• Experience operating forklifts, man lifts, and rigging equipment safely.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical drive systems.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
• Comfortable working in hot, cold, or dusty industrial environments.
• Must pass all pre-employment screenings

Preferred Certifications:

• OSHA 10 or 30
• Forklift / Manlift / Aerial Lift Operator
• Basic Welding (SMAW, MIG, TIG)
