Position Summary:

The maintenance coordinator – grounds keeping is tasked with the upkeep of grounds, as well as upkeep of equipment needed to operate and maintain campus grounds/facilities. The facilities team provides essential services and are on-call during times when business offices may be closed such as weekends, evenings, and holidays.

HOURS PER WEEK: 40+ occasional evenings and weekends

POSITION:

The maintenance coordinator – grounds keeping is tasked with the upkeep of grounds, as well as upkeep of equipment needed to operate and maintain campus grounds/facilities. The facilities team provides essential services and are on-call during times when business offices may be closed such as weekends, evenings, and holidays.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and coordinate work of grounds keeping team
  • Grounds maintenance, including but not limited to mowing, weed cutting, landscaping improvements and snow and leaf removal
  • Perform various types of maintenance with varying degrees of difficulty on all buildings and facilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance on building and grounds equipment
  • Operate machinery and equipment, including grounds equipment, power tools, drain cleaning equipment as well as pickup truck and snow blade (valid driver’s license necessary)
  • Assist with regular inspections of facilities
  • Follow all OSHA safety practices and procedures
  • Assist with safety program initiatives and perform regular safety inspections of all campus grounds and buildings
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 years of experience working as a maintenance tech in a similar environment, preferred
  • Possession of current Ohio State driver’s license

ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS

  • Familiar with maintenance tools and their safe use
  • Able to read blue prints and schematics
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to provide a high level of service to all stakeholders
  • Basic computer skills: Antioch relies heavily on communication via email
  • Able to work side-by-side with student workers, volunteers and friends of the college

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to safely utilize equipment associated with the position’s responsibilities
  • Must be able to safely utilize ladders, lifts, and perform work safely at heights including building rooves
  • Must be able to stand continuously for up to three hours at a time, multiple times during an eight hour shift
  • Must be able to lift, shift, move, and/or carry up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance
  • Must be able to repeatedly bend, twist, and/or stretch down, out, over, and to the side to lift, grasp, stir, adjust, move, or similar during eight hour shift
  • Must be able to work at temperature extremes, both indoors and outdoors
  • Must be able to exert force through arms and hands repeatedly and continually for 30 minutes at a time
  • Must have manual dexterity to enable grasping, carrying, and using standard tools
  • Must be able to safely equipment repeatedly and continually for extended periods of time during eight hour shift.
  • Must be able to walk moderate distances over uneven and paved surfaces

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Narrow work spaces with other people and equipment
  • Exposure to cleaning solvents and other potentially caustic materials
  • Exposure to hot and cold liquids, materials, and gas
  • Noise extremes when operating equipment
  • Position operates on residential college campus with office space, classrooms, kitchen/dining areas, a wellness facility with indoor swimming pool and related equipment, residential spaces, a nature preserve and other spaces found in an educational and community-like environment
  • Will come in contact with garbage and recycle receptacles
  • Will work in a loud environment
  • Will work outdoors primarily
  • Will work indoors occasionally
  • Will at times work in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
  • Will climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis.
  • May occasionally walk on slippery surfaces.
  • Work occurs indoors and outdoors; in weather extremes
