he Research Assistant will support genomic surveillance efforts within the Infectious Disease team. This lab-based role involves hands-on molecular biology work, including DNA extraction and library preparation for both short- and long-read sequencing using Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform high-quality DNA extractions from a variety of biological samples
• Prepare sequencing libraries for Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms
• Maintain precise sample tracking, labeling, and documentation
• Support general laboratory maintenance and compliance with safety protocols
• Collaborate closely with fellow team members to support ongoing research projects
• Troubleshoot basic issues in the extraction and prep workflow

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field
• Hands-on experience with DNA extraction and sequencing library preparation
• Strong attention to detail and a high standard for sample tracking and documentation
• Familiarity with next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms, especially Illumina and/or Oxford Nanopore
