TITLE: Director of Resource Development

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Position Classification : Full Time with Benefits; Hybrid role

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Director of Resource Development is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies to secure financial support from individuals, grants, corporations, foundations, and special events. This role fosters a culture of philanthropy within the organization, ensuring adherence to sound fund development principles and donor confidentiality through measured success.

The Director maintains a portfolio of major gift and corporate sponsorship prospects, develops new donor pipelines, and will partner with the CEO on development activities in support of annual operating and endowment funding. The new Director of Resource Development must be equipped to lead and support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater New Haven (BGGNH) in diversifying revenue streams and increasing sustainable income sources.

This role will supervise a grant writer, and a Development Associate who will manage the Annual Fund and CRM duties and /or development consultants.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing and leading a development program.
  • Proven experience managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, with demonstrated success in securing (5) five and (6) six plus figure gifts.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Public speaking skills a plus.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software tools.
  • Knowledge of planned-giving and grant funding.
  • Ability to engage with local community and committees as a representative of BGCGNH. Facilitates the CEO’s speaking opportunities at community events and filling in on occasion.
  • Experience in writing and/or editing appeals and newsletters. Works closely with the communications team / marketing agency on articles and press releases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Directs and manages the development team activities including annual and special appeals, capital and major gift campaigns, grants management, donor recognition, bequest marketing, and fundraising events.
  • Establishes and implements a multi-year development plan focusing on individual donors, corporations, foundations, events, and planned-giving. Creates long-range and short-term fundraising goals with measurable outcomes.
  • Develops a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs to sustain operations and long-term stability.
  • Identifies and cultivates major gift individual donors and corporate sponsorships. Works closely with the CEO to ensure time is spent wisely on the cultivation and solicitation of top donors and funders.
  • In partnership with the CEO, identifies potential strategic partners including businesses, foundations, and community organizations, entertainment and sports industries, civic and faith-based support (both cash and in-kind). Supports the CEO in outreach and cultivation of strategic partnerships.

Board & Volunteer Engagement

  • Works closely with the Board of Directors, enlisting and motivating board members and volunteers in fundraising activities.
  • Will be a staff liaison to the Resource Development Committee, supporting board members in their fundraising and advocacy efforts.

Donor Relations & Stewardship

  • Develops and supervises donor recognition strategies and events.
  • Maintains donor confidentiality and ensures proper gift recording and stewardship.
  • Oversee the execution of appeal letters, thank-you letters, and donor communication materials.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a donor database to promote donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Familiarity with prospect research best-practices and comfortable utilizing donor CRM systems.

Marketing Oversight

  • Coordinates closely with Events / Marketing team or outside firm and CEO on all aspects of

Marketing involving donors, funders, and fundraising initiatives.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

  • Prepares philanthropic and grant income reports, including projected timelines for revenue receipts.
  • Participates in strategic planning with the CEO, development staff, and board to guide fund development efforts.
  • Ensures compliance with best practices in fundraising and donor management.

Compensation:

The salary and benefits package are competitive: $100,000 - $125,000: and commensurate with experience.
