Job Summary:

The Director of Operations in the produce industry is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the entire supply chain, from procurement and packing to logistics and distribution. This role ensures that fresh produce moves efficiently and profitably from farm to customer while meeting all safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate has deep experience in perishable goods, operational leadership, and strategic planning in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

• Lead and manage daily operations across packing facilities, warehouses, and distribution centers.
• Develop and implement strategies to streamline workflows, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
• Ensure equipment and infrastructure are maintained to support operational efficiency.

Supply Chain & Logistics

• Oversee end-to-end supply chain including procurement, inventory management, cold chain logistics, and transportation.
• Coordinate with growers, suppliers, and logistics providers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of produce.
• Monitor and adapt to market fluctuations, weather events, and seasonal demands.

Quality Control & Food Safety

• Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations (e.g., FSMA, HACCP, GAP).
• Work with quality assurance teams to maintain high standards of freshness, appearance, and shelf life.
• Implement and enforce SOPs for traceability, recalls, and audits.

Team Management

• Lead, coach, and develop operations teams, including plant managers, warehouse supervisors, and logistics personnel.
• Set performance goals and KPIs; conduct regular evaluations and training.
• Strategic Planning & Financial Oversight
• Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and capital investment planning.
• Monitor operational costs, analyze P&L statements, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Support business growth by scaling operations in line with sales targets and new market expansion.

Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Agriculture, or related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
• 8–12+ years of experience in operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in the produce or perishable food industry.
• Strong knowledge of produce handling, cold chain logistics, seasonal operations, and perishability challenges.
• Experience with ERP systems, WMS, and data analytics tools.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
