We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Design and Release Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team, focusing on the design, development, and launch of foundation brake systems.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in brake component design and will be instrumental in leading validation and testing efforts to ensure the robust performance, reliability, and safety of our brake systems. This role requires a hands-on approach, a deep understanding of automotive braking principles, and a proven track record of successful product launches.
Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
Lead the design and development of foundation brake components and systems (e.g., calipers, rotors, drums, brake pads/shoes, master cylinders, brake lines) from concept to production.
Utilize CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX) for component design, packaging, and assembly creation.
Perform engineering calculations and analyses (e.g., stress, thermal, performance) to support design decisions.
Collaborate with styling, packaging, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to integrate brake systems effectively.
Generate and maintain detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
Validation & Testing:
Develop comprehensive DVP&Rs (Design Verification Plan & Report) for foundation brake systems and components.
Plan, execute, and analyse various validation tests, including but not limited to:
Performance testing (stopping distance, fade, recovery, pedal feel)
Durability and fatigue testing
NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) testing
Environmental testing (temperature, humidity, salt spray)
Compliance testing to industry standards (e.g., FMVSS, ECE)
Coordinate and manage internal and external testing resources.
Analyze test data, identify root causes of failures, and propose corrective actions.
Generate detailed test reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Support vehicle-level testing and calibration activities related to braking performance.
Release & Launch:
Manage the release process for brake components and assemblies, ensuring all requirements are met.
Collaborate with suppliers for component development, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
Participate in FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturability/Assembly) activities.
Support production launches, including pilot builds and troubleshooting.
Address manufacturing and field issues related to brake systems as they arise.
Project Management & Communication:
Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for assigned brake components.
Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and management.
Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory requirements related to braking systems.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive engineering with a focus on foundation brake systems.
Proven experience in designing and releasing automotive brake components.
Demonstrated strong experience in validation and testing methodologies for automotive components, specifically foundation brakes.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX).
Experience with DVP&R, FMEA, and other APQP tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Experience with brake system simulation tools (e.g., Adams/Car, MATLAB/Simulink). Knowledge of braking control systems (ABS, ESC, Traction Control). Experience with vehicle dynamics and performance. Familiarity with global automotive regulations and standards.
