The Athletics & Mountain Sports Manager leads the design, delivery, and growth of athletic and outdoor recreation programs for the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe. This role develops, manages, and evaluates a variety of sports leagues, mountain sports programs, outdoor activities, and camps that inspire youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and support the Club’s mission.
The Manager oversees program budgets, staff, volunteers, equipment, and facilities; fosters community partnerships; and ensures programs are safe, engaging, and financially sustainable. This position requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to actively participate in physical sports and recreation activities.
Design, implement, and evaluate leagues, camps, workshops, and events in sports, mountain sports, and outdoor recreation.
Align programs with the Boys & Girls Club’s strategic plan and Formula for Impact outcomes.
Establish annual program schedules, enrollment goals, and staffing plans.
Maintain safe, high-quality facilities, equipment, and program environments.
Build and maintain relationships with Boys & Girls Clubs of America Athletics Program and other key partners.
Collect and analyze participation and impact data; ensure compliance with grant deliverables.
Staff & Volunteer Leadership
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Youth Development Professionals, coaches, volunteers, and contracted instructors.
Ensure timely communication and compliance with volunteer background checks and training requirements.
Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
Conduct weekly site visits to ensure programs are safe, inclusive, and engaging.
Financial Management & Fund Development
Manage departmental budget, including revenue generation, expenditures, and forecasting.
Collaborate with Fund Development staff to pursue sponsorships, grants, and other funding opportunities.
Develop and implement strategies to grow program revenue and sustainability.
Oversee contracts with vendors and third-party providers.
Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote programs via print, web, and social media channels.
Create communication plans for internal and external stakeholders regarding program schedules, changes, and updates.
Serve as primary liaison to community partners, schools, resorts, and parents
Increase visibility and participation through proactive outreach and relationship building.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Human Development, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Minimum 3 years’ experience planning and managing youth sports, mountain sports or recreation programs, preferably in a Boys & Girls Club or similar setting.
Demonstrated coaching experience in mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, paddleboarding, disc golf, and traditional sports (basketball, soccer/futsal, tennis, etc.).
Expertise in youth development, sports programming, and outdoor recreation.
Strong leadership and personnel management skills.
Proven ability to recruit, train, and retain staff and volunteers.
Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in budget development, management, and revenue generation.
Event planning and partnership development experience.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
CPR/First Aid within 90 days of hire; Wilderness First Aid/Responder preferred
CDL with Passenger Endorsement within 90 days of hire
Physical Requirements
Advanced proficiency in mountain biking, paddleboarding, and skiing/snowboarding; ability to actively participate in diverse sports activities.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and remain active on feet for extended periods.
Willingness to work in varying outdoor conditions.
